Violet Inspired Makeup Tutorial | Ruby Barton

Finally, a new video! I've decided to do a spring flower tutorial. My main inspiration was the Pantone Radiant Orchid theme even though this is violet! I might do more flower inspired tutorials for spring but not sure. Anyway, enjoy :)

Videos...Again

I keep doing this to myself and it annoys me deeply. I promise that I'm going to get into doing more videos and then I never deliver because I am so lazy.

This needs to stop and I will try my best to do more because I haven't done a video since mid-December. I will start off by doing a January favourites video to try and get back into the swing of things and then I'm thinking I might start doing tutorials.

This is going to take serious effort from me and I will try my absolute very best to get this done.

As for my blog, you know I have my 2 running articles which stupidly and Wed/Thurs every 2 weeks on the same week. I had these ideas one after the other and couldn't wait to get to work on them, so I think I am going to have to change this and I will have The Drugstore Edit every other week on a Wednesday and then The Beauty Smackdown on the alternate week on a Thursday so at least I am doing something every week and keeping things active, I might think of more things to do so keep an eye out!

Upcoming Project! - Twelve Days of Christmas Nails!

So if you have read an earlier post of mine then you will know that I am doing a set of nail tutorials based on the 12 days of Christmas. I have had a look into this and (after much care and thought going into this!) It would be very difficult not to mention strange to have leaping lords and milking maids on your nails. Not only that but you also can't fit 12 individual things on 10 nails unless you are willing to compromise on space and quality of design.

Any who, I don't want to disappoint you all so I am still doing this but it will be based on very recognisably Christmassy things instead of based on the song. I thought that this would also be a lot easier for everyone if they were wanting to try them out for reals!

More to the point, today is the first day of filming and if I don't get this up by today then it will certainly be by tomorrow or Sunday at the very latest. I am trying to work in a way that I will get all of these designs done for you and still give you plenty of time before Christmas to gather your supplies.

Be sure to keep an eye out for these and I will speak soon!

The Not Quite Ready For Christmas Nails!

I thought that it would be a good idea to show you a nail idea which is perfect for those of us who can't accept that it's close to Christmas and are generally not prepared, but also want to try!

This is going to be your equipment for this look, not much but that's perfect for this look :)
- Boots 17 Magnetic Nail Polish - I have a deep green colour but I don't know the name haha. Also these magnetic polishes are half price in Boots at the moment but I think you need to claim your voucher with your Advantage card.
- Boots 17 Glitter Top Coat
- Sally Hansen Double Duty top and base coat
- Nail File

My nails are looking a little messy but anyway. It's always good to start off with clean hands and neat nails, so file down any rough edges and make your nails about the same length.

Apply a base coat with the Sally Hansen Double Duty or any base coat you prefer, this helps to prolong the wear of your polish and to also protect your natural nail from the colour of the polish your going to use.

This is actually my first time of using a magnetic polish and though they have been around for a long time I have never seen the need to buy it. This actually applies really thick and and you will only need one coat. Whilst the polish is still wet, use the magnet on top of the lid and hold close above your nail for a few seconds. Try not to touch your nail with it, pull the magnet away and you'll see the pattern emerge.
This is the finished result once the magnetic polish has dried, it has an amazing holographic effect and is just so effortless to do.
After your nails are dry apply 2 coats of the glitter top coat, depending obviously on how glittery the polish you have chosen is.

And Here we are! The finished result! I love this design because it is perfect for the purpose, the colour is Wintery and the glitter add a little something but it doesn't outright look like Christmas nails.

I really hope you like this look and let me know if you give it a go.
Also, I have a special project coming up for which I have to be super dedicated! I am going to do themed nails based on the 12 days of Christmas and I have a few ideas for some but this is going to be a challenge, I will try and get all of the videos up for about a week before christmas to give you all a chance to get your supplies and give them a go :)

So keep your eyes peeled :)

Nivea In-Shower Body Moisturiser Review

It's been a long time since I have dedicated a blog post to actually showing you a product or doing something with a product and I thought I owed it to you all to make an effort.

So this is only a short one but I used the Nivea In-Shower Body Moisturiser for the first time today. I really wanted to try this and I have waited a long time to buy it. I went in without any knowledge other than looking at the advert.

Sorry the picture is a bit blurry but I was doing this quite quick.

Anyway so the thing about this product is that you don't have to get out of the shower before you moisturise and I think this is an amazing idea because I don't like doing it, I find it time consuming and like I really have to go out of my way to do it :/

It goes on nicely, it doesn't feel greasy but I can't agree that you can just slip your clothes on after, especially if your choice of clothing is a very tight pair of skinny jeans!

Suffice to say, my skin has felt great all day and I haven't felt like I've wasted my time doing this. The good thing is that they have 2 types, for normal and dry skin. I have chosen the normal own because I don't really suffer from dry skin on my body thankfully.

Overall I think that I would honestly recommend this if you don't particularly like moisturising, it takes 2 seconds to put it on, you rinse it off and you're good to go!
The smell isn't anything amazing but it's not bad and I think that's a big influence on whether I will like a product or not - It's supposed to be sea minerals but I don't really know what that's supposed to smell like.

It retails for £3.40 which I don't think is a bad price at all!

Thanks for reading and don't forget to look out for more posts or visit my YouTube channel

Schedule again!

I have another sort of schedule I want to follow and I can't promise that it's going to work out smooth but I want to get a few things out there.

Firstly, I want to get another makeup tutorial out there, more specifically a barely there makeup tutorial for those who don't have much time in the morning to go full glam!

Next I want to get a few more hauls done and this is totally subject to my funds, bearing in mind that it's nearly Christmas and my money will be focused on presents and I certainly can't show you that!!

I want to get a few Christmas nail tutorials done because I love doing my nails this time of year :)

Finally I was thinking of doing a few Christmas themed makeup tutorials ranging from colour themes to everyday wearable makeup.

Like I say this is only a rough guide of what I'm going to be dong for the rest of the year and I would totally appreciate any suggestions of what you would like to see :)

So I will speak soon and will hopefully post a video for you guys :)

Elf products...

So for the past couple of days I have been testing out some elf products I bought. Of course I am excited to share with you my thoughts, so what I plan to do is tomorrow night I am going to film a video for my Elf haul but I think that it's good that I have left it for a while because now I can give you a little bit of a review on the products. There is just so much I have to say and I hope you all want to listen! :)

Skin Nightmare

I am having the worst time with my skin :/ Although the quality of my skin is improving and it's not as flaky and dry I am having the worst breakout of my life! I have a feeling that this is purely hormonal and it will soon solve itself and actually show all the hard work that I have out into my skincare routine.

Consequently I may not upload as many videos or pictures of myself, I will try and be brave and show my face. You may have seen what I have been talking about in the last 2 videos that I posted, but it has gotten worse, I don't want to sound dramatic about it because it's not as bad as it could be but I think that you will all understand the sort of situation because blemishes are not an uncommon occurrence.

Anyway, I do need time to think of new ideas for videos so I suppose this gives me some time to do that.

So keep your eyes peeled :)

25 Facts About Me!...Stolen From Catherine :P

I'm sure that you will have seen this post already on Catherine's blog and if not then go check it out ---> robertscatherine11.blogspot.co.uk
Anyway, I thought I'd give this one a bash and give you a bit of insight into my life aswell! So here we go :)
P.S. Sorry Catherine I stole some of your questions, I got stuck!

1. My middle name is Anastasia, for a long time I hated my middle name because it was so unusual and like I felt as though I needed to explain how it was spelled or why my parents gave me that name, like I would know or something, but now I really like this name because it's unusual :)

2. All time favourite food - Sausage and mash! Nothing like a bit of comfort food and although I love sushi and pizza and stuff and would have claimed it as my favourite it's truly not. I've had time to think about this and I know it seems weird to put so much effort into this but it's deffo sausage and mash, I could eat it forever! of course with peas and gravy, no onions tho.

3. I have an unusual knack for this one and I'll have to explain it. If someone drops change on the floor I immediately know what type of coins they have dropped. It may sound weird and like I'm obsessed with money but really I don't know how I acquired this skill.

4. I have big hands, big feet and a big nose. These are also things I hated about myself for a long time and I actually wanted a nose job but now I really don't care because I'm not trying to impress anyone and the only person I should be impressing is myself and I'm happy with my looks now because I know what works for me.

5. I have weird gold rings around my pupils. It looks cray considering I have blue eyes :) From what I understand, it's called Central Heterochromia. Mine is common in those with low amounts of melanin in the iris tissue and trust me, I have low amounts of melanin everywhere!

6. Me and Daniel have been together near enough 6 years! That literally means that I was 13 when I started going out with him!

7. My favourite colour? Green! Closely followed by purple but purple is easier to wear than green. But to be more specific then it would be chartreuse.

8. I'm terrified of elevators, I have been working on this a lot lately but I'm scared that the cables will snap and I will fall to my death. Sorry if I have just made you scared of them too.

9. One thing that may grind on me more than anything in the world? When people don't shape their eyebrows correctly and their either too short or too long for their facial proportions.

10. It pisses me off when you can bend over backwards doing something nice for someone and then get nothing in return, not even a thank you. I find it difficult that someone could not be so appreciative even if it was just a thankyou.

11. I'd like to think that I'm not a snob about certain things but I totally am. For instance, coffee. I can't get over the fact that people are employed by a major coffee chain and yet cannot make a decent cup of coffee. Don't get me wrong, I love Starbucks but I only go for the flavoured/seasonal coffees and you wont ever see me with a regular latte from there. I really want to go behind the counter and show them how it's done. Rant over. Don't ban me please.

12. Contrary to popular belief I do like drugstore makeup, I know that quite a lot of the makeup I show is highend but I assure you that when I like a product I will show you it, I don't shun away from cheap because cheap doesn't mean rubbish!

13.I'm quite a shy person. For a long while I dreaded starting new jobs because it means that you have to get to know new people and it'shard work and you can't guarantee that everyone will like you. Unfortunately I left a great job where it was like one close knit family and I wish I had never left but hey I've just got to roll with it!

14. I love makeup, I know this sounds totally obviously but if I don't have makeup I would be lost. I don't really have any other hobbies to be honest and this just makes me feel great, I love dolling myself up because I don't really feel confident in bare skin and when I wear makeup I feel like a totally different person.

15. Favourite film? I don't really know, I have a favourite selection of films and I'll give you a few!;
Matilda, Cry Baby (Yes that totally cheesy one with Johnny Depp in), Kill Bill 1&2, Kick Ass 1&2, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, Mean Girls, Singing in the Rain and err so many more haha.

16. Favourite artists - Lady Gaga, Queen, David Bowie. I don't really care when people say that they don't like Lady Gaga or David Bowie but whe they say that they don't like Queen I almost feel personally insulted.

17. I love Hello Kitty. I would have Hello Kitty tattooed on me if I could come up with a good enough design.

18. I have already picked out my first tattoo and it seems really daft but it's a child hood thing ok?!

19. I feel really lazy at times. I really think that I don't do enough physical exercise and I am actually just to lazy to change that! I actually had a dream last night where I couldn't play badminton as well as I used to and that really wasn't something I wanted to see. I really want to play badminton again.

20. My one massive goal in life is to complete a marathon.

21. I want to be married and have one child by the age of 25 I know this sounds really young but it's just something I want to do and I want to have traveled a whole lot before that!

22. I a still looking for my ideal job, I have tried almost everything and I can't seem to get it right for me.

23. I am nearly 20! in fact I will be 20 in 5 days :) I love my birthday and I love when my birthday is. October seems like a special month :P

24. Although I am, in my opinion, very grown up for my age I think that if you put my in the company of the right people I will act like an utter 5 year old and not in a spoilt brat kind of way but in the omg she's so ditzy and special kind of way.

25. Lastly, Catherine I am again sorry for stealing this from you but it needs to be said. I have a lot of love for everyone who reads my blog/ watches my videos even if you have only visited once. I appreciate it all because I at least feel as though it's worth it :)

After that lengthy and personal post I think you all deserve to see my new video!

Last night!

Last night I slept over at Catherine's house. I know a lot of people think that because you're technically an adult you shouldn't have sleepovers. I say bullshit to that idea!

I was so excited because I have known Catherine from a very young age and we could never have a sleepover and now that we are older and the opportunity presented itself then we were both so excited!.

Anyway, we were quite productive and managed to film a video for my YouTube channel. I decided that I wanted to do my September Favourites video with Catherine as it was a good way for her to get a taste of what it's like to do videos.

Suffice to say, the sleepover was amaze! We talked, watched films, ate so much and just had an amazing time!!

Here is the video that we made;

Tha Future!! + Review + New Video!!!

It's fair to say that it has been some time since I last made a proper blog post and this is because I am trying to focus on YouTube videos and I'm sure that if you follow me on Twitter then you will know the difficulties that I have had with technology. But any way I thought that this would be a perfect opportunity to let you know of the things that I am planning to do.

This is going to be like a combination of both what I am going to review and actual reviews :S
Buckle up for this possibly confusing post!

First off I'll show you the things which I need to review. These are things which I have put off because truth be told I am not a massive fan of doing a review based on sample size products, especially skincare. I just feel that you don't get enough to see any results over an extended period of time. Most of these are the little sample sachets that come from magazines but I do think that based on a first time use then I might buy a full size product and get a full review posted. So here we go.

I think this one came out of the Marie Claire October 2013 issue and it is the Eucerin DermoPurifyer Cleanser and Hydrating Care for oily blemish prone skin. I have never used a Eucerin product before so this will be interesting for me to try. Based on the fact that it says that it is soap and fragrance free I'm going to assume that it will be somewhat like Clinique products but I will let you know as soon as I have tried this one.

This also came out of a magazine though I cannot be sure which one but anyway its the Garnier Moisture Match for Dull Skin.

I'm not entirely sure if this would be suitable for me given that I have combination skin and I tend to get dry patches and this may just aggravate that.

I may give this one a try, not sure but if I feel like I really want to try this range I might just check out the selection and decide from there as they cater to several different skin types which is amazing!

I know for a fact that this one came from the Marie Claire Oct 2013 issue and I'm fairly sure that this is a newish product from Clarins because I cannot get away from an advert about it haha.

This is one of those products that I hate trying because its a one usage sample and I think that to truly test a serums worth it needs to be tried over a extended period of time to get any visible results.

I will give this a try and if I feel like I'm going to like the product just from this sample then I may consider buying the full thing.

**Also, I just looked on the Boots website and this is on an deal where when you buy it you get 1000 points Ooooh!

Finally onto products that I have actually been trying!!
Thie first is a Nails Inc nail polish and I assume this is a limited edition colour but they may have it under a different name. Anyway this came free with the Colgate Max White One toothpaste which I had wanted to try any way and how could I possibly refuse when there is an offer of free nail polish!

It is the colour on my nails that you can see in the picture and it's a slightly orange based metallic red and it applies evenly and requires only one coat which I love. I applied it about 2 days ago and so far there is no chipping but it's really not my choice of colour, I much prefer a blue based red.

Nails Inc usually retails for around £11 but obviously this only cost £3.99 because it was the price of the toothpaste.

This is the Benefit It's Potent Eye Brightening Cream. This is a decent sample size at least and I managed to get this from Boots. If you have a Boots card it's really worth using the little kiosks to find out what offers are on and what vouchers you might be able to get, thankfully this was one of them for me and I have been using it for the last 2 weeks and I still have plenty and this is after twice daily usage. It's a lot thicker and creamier than my Clinique All About Eyes and is less hydrating. I'm trying desperately not to use the word 'greasy' about the Clinique eye cream because that makes it sound bad but it's really not! Anyway the Benefit eye cream requires more product than the other which doesn't bother me and actually it is a really nice feeling product. However, I'm not entirely sure about the 'brightening effects', I don't really have dark under-eyes to begin with so I don't really notice any effects.
If anyone else has tried this and has seen any change then feel free to comment :)

This is another new, raved about product which I wanted to try and I did find a 4 week sample voucher in a newspaper but by the time I got round to going to the Clinique counter it had expired. Luckily it came with the Marie Claire magazine and I assume this is a 4 week sample size but I love the feel of it, not sure of any benefits yet, I have only been using it for about 2 weeks so hopefully in the next 2 I will see some difference.

I am definitely going to consider buying a full size. It is £40 for the smaller size which is a bit pricey, but I'll consider it.

Anyway, that was everything. But as mentioned in the title, I have just uploaded a new video and if you're prepping early for Halloween then you will love this!
